Since 5th grade was learning about celebrations, Mrs. Medina and I found a story in their books called 'The Last Dragon' that seemed interesting. It was basically about a Chinese boy that visits his grandmother in Chinatown. I really liked this story and we connected it to the Chinese New Year celebration. Here you can see the PPT I created to teach the vocabulary words we presented to the students before reading. Also, the students got to play how to spell out those vocabulary words with inidvidual letters Mrs. medina made. After reading and discussing the story we got the students to play a game of order of events with sentence strips (photo below).
