Last day with my kids

The last day with my kids was today. I was very sad to say goodbye but happy that I made a positive impact in their lives. I recieved so much love from my students that I couldn't have left happier. They gave me a big post card with kind messages and others wrote me letters. I even recieved this plaque/trophy(however you call it). It was so nice and I cried a lot. I said goodbye for now because Mrs. Medina and I will be back for a Pizza Party we are going to have with all 3 groups, next week. Below you can see pictures of my last day. I also gave my students a personalized certificate and a small treat. I know I will miss them all.

Poetry (6th grade)

The next topic for 6th grade was Poetry. Everyday I projected a youtube video(cartoon) of poems. The students first learned about the characteristics of poetry and then I started witht the types of Poetry. This is were I basically ended. My last class was about Haiku poetry. I presented a very funny Haiku video from a cartoon I love (Avatar The Last Airbender). Below you can see the PPT I created to introduce the topic and some youtbe video links. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9TQmw9li6ow https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7-2_gUuWK4 https://vimeo.com/28135810

Special Project

The special project was a very difficult task (at least for me). Mrs. Medina and I worked on it together. She being an artist drew everything and I traced all of the flowers and stems. Together we painted everything and her mother helped us out too. It was a lot of work but it was worth it because in the end it looked really nice and everyone trully liked it.

Flat Stanley (5th grade)

Fifth grade had to continue with the topic of the community and we (Mrs. Medina and I) thought of using what we learned from our professor Carmen Torres. We got the students to do a Flat Stanley project! They all turned out different and unique.

Easter Activity

Mrs. Medina and I joined our two sixth grade groups. We projected a cartooon about Easter and the students did a rabbit mask. After photos I hid some eggs we bought for an Easter egg hunt. The students couldn't wait to play. There were two golden eggs with 1 dolar and 2 special eggs with a prize of a big chocolate bunny. After that we took them to the basketball court and they got to play bunny, bunny, hop (another version of duck, duck, goose) and some other hopping games. Then we went back to the classrooom and gave them some treats. I made them the cute little goodie bags you can see in the photo below. At the end of the activity we put some music and the students danced and laughed till the very end. They really liked this activity and asked us to repeat it.

Cenit Activity

Cenit is a club the school has that is about integrating technology to the curriculum. The teacher in charge of the Cenit club asked for our help in decorating for an initiation activity. Mrs. Medina had prior experience in decorating and we agreed to help. In the end Mrs. Medina and her mom were mostly in charge of the decorations. I helped decorate along with our peers, Ms. Quintana, Mr. Mercado and Mr. Lopez. It was a lot of hardwork and we were there practically the entire day. Everything turned out well and the teacher, director and school staff really liked it. The day of the activity they aplauded us for the work and it was quite embarrasing.

Mapping (5th Grade)

We had to teach the fifth graders how to read a map (don't know what that has to do with English). We decided to teach them vocabulary words of a map like the cardinal points and we taught them how to read directions. Afterwards, we did a pirate treasure hunt game where they had to read a map of the classroom to find clues that would lead them to a treasure. I brought a pirate wig and cap to divide the group into two teams. The treasure was fake dollar bills that were given to the students as bonus points and for fun. The students loved this! We also projected real maps (google maps) and online map games as well as videos of maps. (links below) http://www.sfsocialstudies.com/g1/u2/index.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dp8VOG8Cgag
